Privacy Policy
1. Overview
bigchippy ("we", "us") runs www.bigchippy.com, a website where you can play browser games. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site or play the games, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the whole site, including every game hosted on it.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide. You don't need to give us any personal information to play. If we introduce accounts or leaderboards in the future, we may ask for a display name, an email address, and a password, and we will store the scores linked to your account. If you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
Information collected automatically. When you use the site, we and our service providers automatically receive technical and usage information such as your IP address, approximate location derived from it, browser and device type, operating system, the pages and games you view, the page that referred you, and dates and times of visits. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see section 3), including Google Analytics. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, also processes IP addresses and server logs to deliver the site and protect it against attacks.
Game data stored on your device. Games may save progress, scores, and settings in your browser's local storage. That data stays on your device rather than being sent to us, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. We use them in three ways:
- Essential — needed for the site to work and stay secure.
- Analytics — Google Analytics cookies that help us understand how the site and games are used.
- Advertising — cookies set by us or advertising partners to deliver ads, limit how often you see them, measure their performance and, with your consent where required, personalise them.
Where the law requires it (for example in the EU and UK), non-essential cookies are only set after you agree via the consent banner, and you can change or withdraw your choices there at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work as well without them.
4. Analytics
We use Google Analytics, provided by Google, to measure things like which games are popular, how visitors find the site, and where it could be improved. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers, and the information it collects may be processed on Google servers, including in the United States. You can learn how Google handles this data at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can opt out via the consent banner, your browser's cookie settings, or Google's opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
5. Advertising
We plan to show ads to keep the games free to play. Advertising partners, such as Google, may use cookies and device identifiers to serve and measure ads and, where you have consented, to make them more relevant to you. Where consent is required, ads will not be personalised unless you agree.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com, aboutads.info/choices, or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.com.
6. Accounts and leaderboards (planned)
If we launch accounts or leaderboards, we will collect the details described in section 2 to run them. Display names and scores on a leaderboard are public, so choose a name you are comfortable sharing. You will be able to ask us to delete your account and its data at any time using the contact details below.
7. How we use information
We use the information we collect to operate and deliver the site and games; to understand usage and improve them; to show and measure ads; to run accounts and leaderboards once they exist; to keep the site secure and prevent abuse; and to comply with legal obligations. Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on your consent (for analytics and advertising cookies), our legitimate interests (running and securing a simple games site), the performance of a contract (if you create an account), and compliance with legal obligations.
8. How we share information
We share information with service providers who process it on our behalf: Cloudflare, which hosts and protects the site, and Google, which provides analytics and advertising services. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or as part of a transfer of the site to a new owner, in which case this policy would continue to apply.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Some privacy laws, such as California's, treat advertising cookies as "selling" or "sharing" personal information; you can opt out of that through the consent banner and the links in section 5, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals where the law requires it.
9. Data retention
We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Analytics data is retained for a limited period set in Google Analytics, server logs are kept briefly for security, and account data (if accounts launch) is kept until you delete your account, after which it is deleted or anonymised.
10. International transfers
The site can be visited from anywhere, and our providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
11. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, receive a copy in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. California residents may also have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, without being discriminated against for exercising them.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 15. We may need to verify your identity first. If you are unhappy with our response, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
12. Children
The site is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the higher age your local law sets). If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Links to other sites
The site or games may link to websites we don't run. Their privacy practices are their own, so please read their policies.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when ads or accounts launch. The effective date at the top shows the latest version, and we will flag significant changes on the site.
15. Contact
